What We Do

The Work A Coastal Chimney Actually Needs

Salt on the metal, marine damp in the masonry, and a neighborhood mid-rebuild — the services below are shaped by exactly where you live.

Sweep raising a flue brush at a chimney on a tile roof

Chimney Sweeping & Cleaning

Full-length brushing with sealed recovery for wood burners; residue and corrosion-flake clearing for gas. Interiors sheeted and protected — particularly in homes fresh from the finish crew.

  • Flues brushed hearth to cap
  • Firebox, damper & shelf detailed
  • New-home interiors treated gently

No-Fee Inspections, Any Hour

The complete system evaluated and explained at the house, without a fee, day or night. The $149 written report exists for adjusters, rebuild files and escrow — ordered only when needed.

  • The evaluation & explanation: no fee
  • Written report w/ photos: $149
  • Insurance-ready documentation available

Fire-Exposed Evaluation & Rebuilds

Many Palisades chimneys outlasted everything around them. We assess what the heat truly did — honestly and with documentation — then rebuild or repair to current code, in step with your home's larger rebuild.

  • Heat-damage assessment, told straight
  • Coordination with GCs & architects
  • New stacks built to today's code
Talk it through

Repointing & Salt-Air Repair

Ocean air drives salt into mortar and brick faces until both give up. We cut out the failed joints, repack with compatible mortar, and finish with breathable repellents that hold the sea back.

  • Joints cut to sound depth & repacked
  • Spalled coastal brick swapped out
  • Vapor-open repellents, never sealers
Save the masonry

Marine-Grade Caps & Crowns

Standard caps rust fast this close to the water. We fit 316-grade stainless caps and spark screens, rebed pots, and pour crowns that shed both winter rain and the daily marine layer.

  • 316 stainless for true salt resistance
  • Spark screens per California code
  • Crowns poured with proper overhang
Upgrade the top

Leak & Flashing Work

When the first Pacific storm finds a seam, water shows up rooms away from the breach. We trace it to the true entry — flashing, crown or brick — and close that seam in metal for good.

  • Entry points found before pricing
  • Flashing rebuilt in corrosion-proof metal
  • Storm calls taken around the clock

Stainless Liners & Vent Systems

Relines for original masonry flues and complete vent systems for the new construction going up across the neighborhood — sized to the appliance, sealed to code, ready for decades of salt air.

  • Insulated stainless relines
  • New vent systems for rebuilds
  • Gas, wood & insert applications
Plan the venting

Hearth & Fireplace Restoration

The fireplace is where a house feels like home again. We restore stone and brick hearths, rebuild fireboxes behind original surrounds, and finish new hearths for homes starting over.

  • Firebox rebuilds in refractory brick
  • Stone & brick surrounds restored
  • New hearths finished for rebuilds

Seven Things A Palisades Chimney Says Before It Fails

Between the salt, the storms and the rebuild dust, local stacks speak up early. Here's the vocabulary.

  • Smoke curling back into the roomThe draft has failed — blockage, damper or flue. Carbon monoxide rides the same current.
  • Rust bleeding down from the capSalt air has breached the metal. What's staining the brick is also opening the flue to rain.
  • White crust blooming on the brickSalt migrating through damp masonry — the marine layer's signature on a failing stack.
  • Stains appearing with the first stormTen dry months hid the breach; the crown, cap or flashing just announced it.
  • Glassy black inside the flueGlazed creosote — flue-fire fuel. That fireplace stays cold until the glaze comes out.
  • Hairline cracks in a fire-exposed stackHeat damage surfaces slowly. A chimney that stood through the fire still needs its verdict.
  • A flue unopened since before the fireWhatever the last two years deposited up there, the free evaluation will find it.

Our Method

Four Steps, Told In Advance

In a neighborhood that's been through enough surprises, we deal only in the scheduled kind.

1

Reach A Person

Whatever the hour, someone who works on chimneys answers. Describe the house — original, rebuilt or mid-build.

2

The No-Fee Evaluation

Hearth to cap, everything examined and explained on site. The $149 written report backs insurance and escrow needs.

3

Priced In Writing

Recommended work arrives itemized by urgency — you choose what happens, with no clock running on the quote.

4

Finished & Faithful

Work completed to code and to the house, the site left immaculate, the warranty documented before we drive off.

Palisades Questions, Answered Without Spin

Free inspection, around the clock — where's the catch?

No catch, one asterisk: the evaluation and the on-site explanation never carry a fee, at any hour. If the findings need to become a written report with photographs — because an insurance adjuster, a rebuild team or escrow requires documents — producing that report is $149, and it only happens when you ask. Homeowners simply checking on their chimney typically pay nothing at all.

Our chimney survived the fire. Is it safe to use?

Please don't light it until it's been evaluated — and we say that gently, knowing what those standing chimneys mean to this neighborhood. Intense heat crazes flue tiles, cooks mortar and can weaken a stack that looks untouched from the curb. We evaluate fire-exposed chimneys carefully, document everything for insurance when you need it, and give you a straight answer about whether the original stack can serve the home being rebuilt around it.

Why do coastal chimneys need different materials?

Because ordinary galvanized and even standard stainless surrender to salt air years early. Within reach of the marine layer we specify 316-grade stainless for caps, screens and flashing, breathable repellents for the masonry, and mortar compatible with damp coastal conditions — the difference between a top that lasts five years and one that lasts twenty-five.

Can you work alongside our rebuild contractor?

We'd rather work with them than around them. Fireplace and chimney scope lands at specific points in a rebuild — footings, rough-in, finish — and coordinating those moments with your GC keeps the schedule honest. We provide whatever documentation the project file requires and build to the code as it stands now, not as it stood in 1962.

Do the canyon and bluff lots cost extra to service?

No — difficult access is our normal, not our upcharge. Rustic Canyon switchbacks, Highlands driveways, roofs that drop off toward the ocean: the crew rigs for all of it weekly. The quote reflects the work on the chimney, not the adventure of reaching it.

How often does a lightly used coastal fireplace need service?

A look every year, cleaning only when the flue genuinely needs it. Light use doesn't pause the salt, the damp or the debris — corrosion works year-round, and gas sets quietly deposit residue regardless of how rarely you flip the switch. Since the annual look is free here, the maintenance plan writes itself.

What insurance documentation can you provide for work?

Liability and workers' compensation certificates before any visit, additional-insured endorsements when a project calls for them, and — for inspection findings — the $149 written report formatted so adjusters can act on it. Crews are background checked and treat finished interiors like the investments they are.

When should we call immediately instead of booking ahead?

Smoke or gas smell indoors, masonry coming down, storm water entering around the fireplace, or an animal in the flue — say the word urgent at (424) 251-5645 and the nearest truck turns your way, whatever the hour. Live flames or suspected carbon monoxide: out of the house and onto 911 first, always.
